as for pasta sauce, you need to be more specific on what you would like. generally, there are tomato based sauce, cream sauce, white wine sauce and olive oil based.

Carbonara sauce (a classic pasta dish with egg and cream)
Ingredients
    1 pound linguine or spaghetti
    6 strips bacon, diced
    4 egg yolks
    1 cup grated Parmesan
    1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped

Directions
1.    Cook the pasta according to the package directions, or see above.
2.   Meanwhile, fry the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. Transfer to a paper towel and reserve the drippings.
3.    In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Still whisking constantly, add 2 tablespoons of the drippings. Working quickly, add the drained pasta and Parmesan to the yolk mixture and toss to combine. Add the salt, pepper, parsley, and bacon. Serve immediately. (The heat of the pasta cooks the eggs, but not thoroughly.)
Enjoy!
Basic Marinara sauce ( tomato sauce)
Ingredients
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 celery stalk, finely chopped
1 carrots, peeled and finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 (32-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
1 dried bay leaves
Directions
In a large pot, heat the oil over a medium-high flame. Add the onions and garlic and saute until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes. Add the celery, carrots, and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Saute until all the vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes. Add the tomatoes and bay leaves, and simmer uncovered over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 1 hour. Remove and discard the bay leaves. Season the sauce with more salt and pepper, to taste.
(The sauce can be made 1 day ahead. Cool, then cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over medium heat before using.)

This sauce is the basis for alot of italian pasta, can go with seafood, meatballs, ground meats, or just plain with a couple fresh basil is very good.

olive oil based pasta can be anything you like, can technically go with anything.
for example,
heat olive oil put some garlic, then add seafood and/or veggies of your liking, then toss in pasta at the end.  add fresh herbs and grated cheese to finish.
the trick is to have the pasta ready when the olive oil sauce with mixture is ready.  transfer drained pasta straight from pot to pan.  toss for a minute and serve.

pasta is best serve immediately, and when cooking pasta just drain well before adding to sauce, do not ever never rinse pasta.

some classic pasta dish requires no cooking.
tuna, lemon, and caper pasta (no cooking required)
1 can (6 ounces) tuna (chunk or solid in olive oil), drained
1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
grated zest of 1 medium lemon
    2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup nice fruity olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
    freshly ground black pepper
    2 tablespoons capers, drained
1/4 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
    freshly grated Parmesan cheese

mix everything together in a large bowl, cook pasta.
when pasta is ready, drain well.  then add to bowl with mixture, toss well with cheese and parsley and serve.
