Chelsea close to signing wonderkid
CHELSEA will finally spend big money in the transfer market this week-by
tying up an amazing £18m deal for a virtually unknown teenager.
Having uncharacteristically only snapped up free transfers so far this
summer, the Blues are set to splash out on Brazilian sensation Alexandre
Pato.
The 17-year-old striker, who currently plays for Internacional, has been
linked with a move to AC Milan and Benfica.
But Chelsea have moved quickly to agree a deal as they fear Pato will
attract even more interest at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, which
starts on June 30.
And they are believed to have offered a package which could ultimately be
worth a sensational £18m to Internacional.
Pato's agent Gilmat Veloz revealed: "The deal is almost done because the two
clubs have discussed the matter in the last few days."
Despite the imminent deal, Chelsea are unlikely to be able to show off their
new signing until the new year, having reportedly agreed to allow Pato to
play for Internacional until the end of the Brazilian domestic season in
December.
Pato himself admitted: "My dream is to play in the Europe, but I want to
wait to go at the best time." |
