Well I saw an article which reported that when judging a case of hit and run, the Nanjing judge asked the defendent why he helped the wounded since he was not the one that brought the wounded down. Such a statement probably sumed up the general practice of carring only your home front.
I hope that this little angel who was discarded by society can act as a wake-up call to the nation about the importance of moral education

To be honest when I read this news I feel a shame to be a Chinese...but the reason why the people in PRC become so 'cold blood' is just because there are so many bastards in China doing cheating business every day...not so long time ago we just heard the news that a 'hot blood' guy was helping an old man who got injured on the road and brought him home was finally being cheated by that old man for a big money. Even the case was finally put on court that good guy still have to pay...so what's wrong on our country!!

I couldn't have agree more, all these cheats has taught Chinese one lesson,

多做多錯,少做少錯,吾做就無錯。多一事不如少一事,少一事不如無事。

Chinese people's heart is not cold, Chinese are so protective to themselves the heart is blocked。

How do you know if the girl on the street genuinely need help, who can guarantee as soon as you stop and check on her, that there isn't a dozen men jump out and accuse you for hurting the girl and demand money from you。

I heard a real story, years and years ago when a woman went to Guong Dong the arm of her sunglasses fell off.  Several people there helped look for the tiny screw and fixed her glasses.

Where is that spirit now?  I hope it would return some day.
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is mystery,
Today is a gift, that is, a present!
Parents can't lock up their children or watch them every minute, but they should make them aware cars can be dangerous, truck drivers can't see little kids.

Every now and then we hear news that parents run over their child while backing out of their driveway.

Then again, there is no excuse that truck driver not only did not stop to help, but run over her again with the back wheel...absolute horror and makes my blood boils..
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is mystery,
Today is a gift, that is, a present!

I believe this incident is only a manifestation of a deeply embedded social ill. Since the establishment of the PRC government, the series of political movements had basically destroyed the yardstick for truth and righteousness. It is easy to blame the people but all they do is self-preservation. They know clearly justices would not be served. It is not the lack of written laws but the will to carry them out in China. The judicial system is still like a black box and often serves the political inclination of the government and the powerful ones. The people would remain detached until the injustices fall on them. Recent examples like 趙連海, 陳光誠 who stood for justices and what a hefty price they paid. The absurdity in handling the 高鐵 accident defied all logic under the very eye of high officials. The angry outbursts and condemnation were 'harmonized' quickly.  Everything has a price-tag in China now, wealth is the only parameter to measure success and also the safest one. The sons and daughters of the past and present leaders among the wealthy is a telltale sign of the ill emanating from the very top. Therefore, I don't blame the common people, they only do it for self-preservation. Frankly, I see no remedy out of this and you can call me a pessimist.

Aren't we over politicizing this human tragedy too much?  This little girl was killed. Killed in a most callous way.  She was robbed of her happy time when all the other kids are getting the red pockets at the next Chinese New Year, she wouldn't get to try on another pair of new shoes or pretty dress, she would not be attending her school sports carnival, she would miss out learning how to put on cosmetics, on falling in love for the first time, her 18th birthday, being independent, getting married, have children ......
And you would let this happen again?!  What about when the next victim is some one you know? She could even be your sister, your niece, your daughter, or just the young girl or young boy living next door.

Well said.
Yes, as simple as that.
I hold no political agenda,
and I'm not being self-righteous,
but I can't bear watching that clip anymore,
tears fill my eyes,
and I don't easily get emotional;
wish I could write a song,
somebody to write a song,
for such sad sad tragedy,
to remind us,
we can all lend a helping hand
to our fellow human being,
a simple act of kindness
could save someone's life;
that someone,
could easily be
someone close to you.

Thk you very much to share. It is a very sad case...now I can see the matter in better light.

Long time ago, hikers often got a ride easily. But some nuts n nerds abused kindness with cars who stopped, and robbed them too. These days cars don't really stop for hitch hikers too, for the same reasons.

And there's also cases, where help was offered to strangers, and later found they hve withdraw their savings fr the ATM ...n their home were robbed.

And the more extreme cases, were a night out hanging in clubs with some strangers, ended the next morning in some motel bathroom tub covered with ice, and with an incision on the body, and organs removed. I heard selling organs in the black market is quite ruthless and cold blooded.

Deceiving and misleading superstitious claims of baby tonic soup sold in restaurants for selfish means n gains are extremely disturbing and discomforting.

It is true to a certain extend, that con mans and swindlers have made it fearful for the general public to offer a helping hand.

I definitely agreed with you, the coldness in China were to some extend affected and caused by people who have abused kindness with cheating n deceitful means.

I am sure, there are still many people who are kind and helpful.

China has just opened its doors to the splendid freedom, to its nation not too long. It is amazing that China's economy is doing pretty well now.
Perhaps the country and nation needs more time and experience with these new found freedoms  to mature and develop and steer on to its own purpose and needs.
China's dream, future, and hope is in the hands of the younger generation who will give new blood to its nation and country's fate.
