One of the most striking of Socotra’s plants is the dragon’s blood tree (Dracaena Cinnabari), which is a strange-looking, UFO-shaped tree. The tree is so named because any possible injury to the bark results in a deep red liquid that excretes from the scar.

Its red sap was thought to be the dragon’s blood of the ancients, sought after as a medicine and a dye, also inscribe as magical seals and talismans.
